A polyurethane composite system developed by Bayer MaterialScience is being used by Conforce International Inc., Pittsburgh, for its Eko-Flor product that provide a more durable, light weight alternative for wood flooring used in trailers.
The company says its Eko-Flor cs-4 flooring modules have been well received by the international shipping community. The modules are formed from Baydur PUL 2500 using a polyurethane pultrusion process. It is 22% lighter in weight than the traditional wood or wood-based materials used for trailer flooring and it is significantly stronger, requiring less maintenance and a longer service life.
“The strength properties exerted by the EKO-FLOR are like nothing we’ve ever seen in a panel of this type,” says Harry George, head, Diversified Industries, New Applications, NAFTA, BMS. “Working with Conforce on this innovative product line has given us the opportunity to offer not only our materials, but also our technical know-how to help them with developing a top-notch product.”
Conforce president and CEO Marino Kulas adds, “Bayer MaterialScience LLC has been closely involved in production of the EKO-FLOR modules, most often physically at the plant, working hands-on during development. They have engaged in finite element analysis, computer modeling, product testing and preliminary environmental studies. Their expertise and assistance has played an important role in bringing this product to market.”
